Our Origin A century ago, Mount Sinai Hospital opened its doors on Yorkville Avenue after a group of Jewish women went door-to-door, determined to raise enough money for a hospital to address the unmet health-care needs in their community. Known then as the Hebrew Maternity and Convalescent Hospital, it was a place where everyone was welcome, a place where women could safely give birth, and one of the few institutions in the city where Jewish doctors could intern and practice medicine. The inextinguishable spirit of our founders lives on today, in a hospital that continues to break barriers and defy the odds every day. The Mount Sinai 100 Experience, hosted originally in June 2023 at the Art Gallery of Ontario, is an installation highlighting pivotal moments from our rich history.
