Libraries play a vital role in campus life as hubs for research, study and collaboration. Home to an extensive collection, McGill Libraries receive an average of 9,500 visits on a typical weekday and stage hundreds of lectures, workshops and tours every year. With nine physical locations, spanning the downtown and Macdonald campuses, McGill Libraries’ role in teaching and learning has never been more important. The digital age has completely transformed how students and faculty use libraries – how they seek information and connect with each other. With the support of a committed community, McGill Libraries can continue to excel in meeting the evolving needs of current and future students and scholars in pursuit of their academic goals. Explore {{ element.dataset.anchor }} Creating versatile spaces 2024 marked the opening of the McGill University Collections Centre near Montreal. The off-site state-of-the-art facility for book storage and retrieval now houses about 60 per cent of McGill Libraries’ physical collection. Transferring low-circulating collections to the storage centre has freed up significant and much-needed space in the McLennan Library. Your support will help us: Maintain a healthy library acquisitions budget, particularly in the face of inflation and currency exchange rates that pose obstacles to maximizing resources Enhance McGill Libraries’ world-class collections and contribute to student success through access to important academic resources Treasures from the past McGill Libraries includes Rare Books & Special Collections, the Osler Library of the History of Medicine, and the Visual Arts Collection, which house rare materials that are unique in the world. These units of McGill Libraries make essential primary resources accessible to researchers, students, and visitors and showcases unique materials for the public.
