MediaWiki is wiki software, released under the GPL, that is used by Wikimedia projects as well as other websites. It is an implementation of a wiki, a content pool that anyone can freely edit. It is developed using Wikimedia Phabricator. MediaWiki 1.45.1 is the latest stable version, and is recommended for third-party users. Those running their own servers should upgrade for security reasons. Special:Version shows what version a site is running. You can play around in the local Sandbox to see this version in action. MediaWiki 1.45.1 is available for download from MediaWiki.org, a site that is also responsible for the documentation of the software. MediaWiki 1.47.0-wmf.15 (3f954f5) is currently running on all Wikimedia sites. Third-party users should not run the alpha/beta versions of MediaWiki on publicly accessible servers.
