Mira er ei dobbeltstjerne, som består av den raud kjempa Mira A i lag med Mira B. Mira A er ei oscillerande variabel stjerne og var den første variable stjerna som vart oppdaga som ikkje var ein supernova, med Algol som eit mogeleg unntak. Mira er den mest lyssterke periodisk variable stjerna på himmelen som ikkje er synleg for det nakne auga i delar av syklusen sin. Avstanden er uviss. Estimat før Hipparcos var estimert til kring 220 lysår;[11] medan data frå Hipparcos frå 2007 indikerte ein avstand på 299 lysår, med ein feilmargin på 11 %.[12] Mira sett av Hubble.
