The AURIN WA Node is the product of our long-standing relationship with PATREC and is supported by co-investment from the WA State Government, UWA and Curtin University. The AURIN WA Node is designed to foster long-term, strategic partnerships with key scientific and higher education institutions to support high-impact research on cities, infrastructure systems, and communities. It will enable critical work on climate change, energy transition, and demographic transformation, supporting researchers and government users, particularly in PATREC’s Climate Action in Transport and Land Use Planning (CATLUP) program. Learn more AURIN IMPACT AURIN and QUT Team Wins UN World Data Forum Competition A team of AURIN and QUT members, under the umbrella of the Australian Data Science Network, have won their thematic category in the UN World Data Forum’s 2024 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition. Their winning story, “Understanding Heat Risk in New South Wales, Australia”, explores how open data maps heat vulnerability across NSW, helping to guide communities toward a resilient future. For more on the teams project, and on the UNWDF competition, see the AURIN blog! Transport Noise Overlay and Buildings data is now available on request. Apply now RESEARCH IMPACT Simulating the Movement of Bike Riders in Urban Environments Using data from STRAVA, Riderlog, and urban datasets and tools from AURIN, researchers at the University of New South Wales have developed a simple Agent-Based Model (ABM) to support the planning of new bicycling infrastructure. The model simulates the movements of bike riders in response to the existing built environment and user designed scenarios. Their model simulates how bike riders move through urban streets, and was was designed to replicate riders’ route choices between their home and place of work to find the most used path and see how this was influenced by the built environment and the characteristics of the road. Learn more URBAN HEALTH INDICATORS Acquisition of Key Data for the Australian Urban Health Indicator Project The Australian Urban Health Indicator project (AusUrb-HI) has hit another milestone with the acquisition of individual linked health data at SA1 level. SA1 data is the finest aggregated geography available from the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) for statistical analysis of people and place. Accessing data at this level allows us to delve deeply into health records and outcomes to improve our research’s depth and impact.
