Cases are 17% higher than during the same period in 2025. The Central Pacific region has the highest incidence rate, while Alajuela Province has the largest number of cases. Orotina canton is the most affected area by incidence, with 1’042 cases per 100’000 inhabitants. Cases are evenly distributed between males and females. Health authorities have identified major outbreak hotspots in Orotina and La Guácima, where vector control measures, including breeding-site removal and fumigation, are underway. Note: Costa Rica is also at an outbreak level for chikungunya (See healthytravel website and CDC). 05 August 2026 Know More Sri Lanka: Dengue As of 30 July 2026, Sri Lanka reported 84’724 dengue cases and 62 deaths in 2026, with a case fatality rate of 0.07%. July recorded the highest monthly case count (29’350 cases), accounting for more than one-third of the annual total, following a surge from 21’553 cases in June. In epidemiological week 29, reported cases declined slightly to 7’385 from 7’619 the previous week. The number of high-risk health areas increased to 175, while average daily dengue hospitalizations remained high at 2’391 patients across sentinel hospitals. Gampaha and Colombo districts reported the highest case numbers, with Gampaha, Colombo, and Kalutara together accounting for nearly half of all national cases. 05 August 2026 Know More India (Kerala): Leptospirosis As of 31 July 2026, Kerala had reported 1’394 confirmed leptospirosis cases and 63 confirmed deaths, alongside 932 suspected cases and 53 suspected deaths, for a combined total of 2’326 cases and 116 deaths. July alone recorded 415 confirmed cases and 30 deaths, with multiple deaths reported daily in the final week. Cases were reported across at least 10 districts, indicating widespread state-wide transmission. Death audit data show the highest mortality among manual laborers, followed by agricultural workers and homemakers, with most deaths occurring in people aged 40–69 years. Health officials also report leptospirosis now accounts for over half of communicable disease deaths in Kerala, with the case fatality rate increasing to 6% in recent years. In response, the Kerala Centre for Disease Control (K-CDC) has updated guidelines to recommend extended doxycycline prophylaxis for workers throughout their occupational exposure period. 05 August 2026 Know More France: Chikungunya and Dengue - autochthonous cases As of 27 July 2026, Metropolitan France reported its first locally acquired chikungunya case of the year in Tarn, Occitanie, indicating local virus circulation. Two unrelated autochthonous dengue cases were also identified in Tarn and Hérault. Since enhanced surveillance began on 1 May 2026, France has recorded 87 imported chikungunya cases, 261 imported dengue cases, and nine imported Zika cases.
