This website was originally created as part of a project funded by the Home Office, with the dedication and commitment of survivors, who wanted to share their experience and insight to develop a resource for survivors wherever they are in the journey. The website reflects the branding and design we used at that time. Since then, our organisation has evolved and rebranded. But we’ve chosen to keep this site just as it is, because we’re incredibly proud of the work it represents. While the look may feel different from our current materials, the content remains powerful, relevant, and deeply supportive. We hope that anyone visiting, especially survivors, will find something here useful to them. Each section explores a specific area associated with the effects that survivors of rape and/or sexual abuse can often experience in the aftermath of sexual trauma, and provides a resource for survivors and anyone who wants to learn more about the impact of sexual violence, or wants to use as a self-help toolkit as part of their recovery journey. The sections introduce the topic, share experiences and advice from survivors, outline common challenges and concerns that survivors may have, and provide tips, exercises, and links to external resources which survivors may find useful to explore further. The 10 topic areas on this site are: Dissociation Sleep Intimacy Stress, Panic & Anxiety Relationships Supporting Survivors Self-esteem Trauma Shame & Guilt Wellbeing Dissociation Intimacy Relationships Self-esteem Shame & Guilt Sleep Stress, Panic & Anxiety Supporting Survivors Trauma Wellbeing We have also put together a Resources Database that you can use to search for specific resources to meet your needs.   While supporters of survivors, such as family members, partners, and professionals who work with them, may find other areas of the site useful, we have also put together a specific section exploring resources for supporters.   This site has been developed in collaboration with survivors with lived experience and representatives from The Survivors Trust member organisations, who provide specialist support to all survivors of rape, sexual violence, and sexual abuse.   Look after yourself Everyone’s journey of healing from sexual violence and abuse is different, and you may find that some sections of the website or resources suggested are not right for you. This is completely normal and you should try to explore and work through resources at your own pace and tolerance level. Any moment or action you can take for yourself, no matter how small it might seem, is a step forwards. If you would like to find specialist support in your area, visit the Find Support section of The Survivors Trust website. You can also contact The Survivors Trust helpline for free, confidential emotional support.
