Graduate Centre for Academic Communication University of Toronto Skip to Content Feeling Distressed? Welcome to the Graduate Centre for Academic Communication! The GCAC provides graduate students with advanced training in academic writing and speaking. August 2026 intensive course registration is now open! The September 2026 course schedule is posted, with registration opening at 10am on Tuesday, August 18. On-demand workshops and Writing Centre consultations are available all year round. Courses Workshops Writing Centre Boot Camps Contact Us Overview Graduate students communicate sophisticated information to sophisticated audiences. As you prepare to attend your first conference, write your first proposal, or publish your first paper, you will need stronger communication skills than those needed in undergraduate work. By emphasizing professional development rather than remediation, the GCAC can help you cultivate the ability to diagnose and address the weaknesses in your oral and written communication. How We Support You The GCAC offers seven types of support designed to target the needs of both native and non-native speakers of English: Non-credit courses Live workshops On-demand workshops Individual writing consultations Boot camps Additional resources Guest talks within departments by invitation All of our programs are free. Courses, workshops, and boot camps require registration. Writing Centre consultations require an appointment. Please Note International Visiting Graduate Students (IVGS) and Postdoctoral Fellows are welcome to attend GCAC workshops; however, they are ineligible for GCAC courses and Writing Centre consultations.
