Dunno how much I will post from there because of display limitations working in van. New battery for the A7R VI due to the new battery being larger. Hopefully it will be good all day—TBD. But it does suck to not be able to use my A7R V batteries. Excellent grip, the A7R VI is a drop-in replacement for the Sony A7R V workhorse, I feel right at home instantly That's the way an upgrade to an already-superb design should feel. To this day, I'm not giving an inch on usability to any other brand vs Sony's A7R and A7 and A1 series. 66.4MP vs 60MP is of no resolution consequence (about 4% linearly), so the interesting part is image quality with a 2-step gain that flips at ISO 640. Seems like we are at the END OF THE LINE for 35m mirrorless cameras in terms of having nailed-down just about everything. Still, stupid things remain unfinished, like no in-camera frame averaging, and less than perfect Eye AF. But in terms of raw imaging ability, the final result is in, barring some radically new tech. The Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM and Sony FE 50-150mm f/2 GM are now at the top of my list for all-time favorites. I don't own either, but I would like to. I did not chart the entire day, but sunrise and sunset should be nearly identical, possibly with air that is more clear at sunrise, so more UV and blue (less scattering). These readings on July 2 are within 2 weeks of summer solstice. Readings and time of day will follow a similar pattern over the day, but with much less UV at the beginning and end of the day, since the sun is much lower to the horizon near the winter solstice. At 13:14 (almost exactly solar noon), the light energy is evenly distributed across the spectrum. UV and blue are relatively high. Light energy doesn't change much through at least 16:34... call it 5PM. From 5PM to sunset (July), the light increasingly is dominated by red + infrared.\ UV drops substantially by 18:35. Infrared is coming on strong about 45 minutes bef0re sunset. Just after sunset, the UY/blue spectrum rises, but intensity is very low. An outstandingly even spectral distribution overall, but with a massive spike into the deep red and infrared. Actually energy extends well beyond 780nm but the meter cuts off at that point. Infrared is what your body craves, so reading or napping (or even knapping) under a tree like this is a great way to get natural light. Toggle to compare with/without windshields. Cuts blue-violet by ~15%. Cuts orange by about 15% Cuts red by about 30% Cuts infrared by about 50%. Deep red and infrared are important wavelengths for health, but for a vehicle, blocking heat (infrared) is a huge plus on a hot summer day (not so great in winter). What about home windows? And yet both lighting sources and glass strongly interfere with natural light balance. I used a Sekonic C-7000 to measure various light sources in my house. Inside, I use halogens exclusively, but the garage needs high power LEDs to be sufficiently bright. The C-7000 can be connected to a Mac or PC to obtain these and other high quality graphs. Sunlight is the best of course. Next best is tungsten halogen, with its continuous spectrum loaded with beneficial infrared and free from excess blue that damages health. For LEDs, Cineo remote phosphor is by far the best of any LEDs I tested and this is readily perceived simply by the lovely color rendition, the closest to daylight you'll get short of halogens. But like all LEDs, it is weak in infrared and still has a modest blue spike. Awful color quality is seen in even high-grade flashlights, such as the Fenix LR35R Pro, whose red and UV modes are really useful, with red being super easy on the easy for night vision, but its godawful blue spike "white" light being about the worst thing ever for your eyes. Mouse-over to compare the various light sources. Note: C-7000 measurement range is 380nm ultraviolet (long wave UV) to 780nm short infrared which some people can weakly see.
