Evan My study away experience in Kyoto "As an aspiring public servant, living in a place so unlike where I grew up was critical in shaping how I now think about making my community better. Japan is a totally different environment from the US, with a lot to admire as well as its own set of complex social issues. It was really inspirational to see how a different society approaches its problems. The courses in Kyoto are designed to get you out and about in the city, so you’re never just learning about the country in the classroom." Q&A with Evan 📸 The 2025–26 BOSP Photo Contest is now open! Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Alumni Reflection “My time studying away with BOSP in Santiago, Chile, had an incredible impact on me. Living in another country and speaking a foreign language instilled a new dimension of confidence in me. Navigating the unknowns of daily life in another country could be quite challenging and required me to be persistent, flexible, and resourceful in completely new ways. It may be uncomfortable at times, but the ultimate personal impact of studying away is incredibly powerful and life-changing, and it may be difficult to find another time later in life to have such an experience.
